I was reluctant to leave that Utah Utopia, but I could find no valid reason for staying. If I lingered, my past was certain to catch up, and I did not want these people's image of me to be tarnished.

- How did your final conversation with your father affect you?

- My father died while I was in prison. I never was able to tell him how sorry I was, how much I loved him, how much he meant to me. Because I was in prison, I wasn't even allowed to attend his funeral. The Bureau of Prisons felt I was an escape risk and denied my funeral visit.

- ... Do you think France's system is preferable to America's? Is Perpignan still in operation?

- The French prisons will never change, but the older i get, the wiser I get. Maybe the French have the best system. They believe that when you commit a crime, you are punished. You are removed from society and its privileges. You are confined. It is not a comfortable living environment. It's not meant to be. ...
